On Thursday, Sept. 13, students from Nathan Stogdill's English 211 collaborated with students in Devan McGranahan's Environmental Studies 305 to perform Farmscape, a readers’ theater written by Iowa State University students under the direction of Iowa Poet Laureate Mary Swander. Based on interviews with individuals who represent the diverse investments in the agricultural sector, Farmscape dramatized the breadth of issues and emotions faced by actual residents of the modern agricultural landscape. The performance was adapted for an audience in Tennessee. Following the performance, Gina Raicovich, the university farm manager; Rick Wright, the university's executive chef; and Jess Wilson of the Cumberland Farmer's Market and In Town Organics, led a discussion of the environmental, economic, and social issues raised by Farmscape in the context of the farming and food systems on the Cumberland Plateau.
